Despite being an architect by training, he chose a career in business, selling fabrics. On the morning of July 18, 1994, Luis was dealing with the death of his grandfather Isaac and went to AMIA with his cousins and a family friend to arrange the burial. The explosion at 9:53 a.m. claimed their lives, leaving behind a watch among Luis's belongings, still ticking amidst the tragedy.
